Police are "instantiated" by the creation of a State that wants to protect its views and its distribution of resources and supplies.
Therefore, the existence of a State can almost be said to "necessitate" the existence of a police force, which is authorized to use extreme violence to keep the views and supply flow design.
Can we have a State without police?
The greek word polis, where "police" is said to have originated, means an iteration of a city-state. A city-state within an empire, by necessity?
It could be wonderful and fascinating to finally see the police get defunded, and to see the needed community organization that results out of the sudden "power gap".
